It is completely normal to feel nervous about starting counseling. But you know you've put it off as long as possible, and now it is time. Counseling is intended to teach, support, and empower you. I use many different therapeutic approaches to assist you in the healing process.
Love is the greatest thing we do. But sometimes couples may struggle with communicating, connecting, and understanding.
I only work with a very limited amount of couples at a time. Both parties are encouraged to participate in individual therapy (whether with me or with an outside therapist).
You are probably curious about what goes on during your child's therapy session. I create a safe space for them to express their thoughts and feelings freely. I help them understand what they feel and why they feel it. Together we explore what their needs may be. They learn new coping skills and healthy communication skills, and practice using them.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a widely used research-based approached. It is goal oriented talk therapy. It focuses on changing negative thinking patterns that contribute to depression and anxiety. You'll discover the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) facilitates the processing of traumatic memories to develop an adaptive resolution.
During an EMDR session you focus on the disturbing material in small doses while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli (eye movement, bilateral tapping, audio, etc).
